About the Gross-up (Net to Gross) Calculator

Salary negotiations happen in gross, but life happens in net. This calculator works backwards from your target take-home pay to the gross monthly salary you need to ask for. It solves the full statutory stack - EPF per the KWSP Third Schedule, SOCSO, EIS and PCB per the LHDN computerized MTD formula - to find the smallest gross salary whose net pay meets your target.

It uses the same engine as HRWork payroll, so the answer matches what payroll would actually deduct. Double-check the result in the Salary Calculator with your allowances and bonus included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gross-up calculation?
It works backwards from the take-home pay you want to the gross salary you must be paid. Because EPF, SOCSO, EIS and PCB all depend on the gross amount, the calculator solves for the smallest gross whose net pay meets your target.
Why is the required gross so much higher than my target net?
Every extra ringgit of gross salary is reduced by EPF (11%), SOCSO, EIS and PCB at your marginal tax bracket - so at higher incomes you may need roughly RM1.20 to RM1.35 gross for each RM1.00 of take-home.
Does this include bonus or allowances?
No - it solves for a plain monthly salary. Once you have the number, run it through the Salary Calculator to see the full breakdown with allowances and bonus.

Solved against the official EPF Third Schedule, PERKESO SOCSO and EIS Act 800 tables and the LHDN Specification for MTD Computerized Calculation - the same statutory engine that powers HRWork payroll. Steady-state estimate excluding TP1 reliefs, zakat and mid-year changes. Always refer to LHDN, KWSP and PERKESO for official figures.
